Women’s Baseball Superstar Alex Hugo Joins WPBL as Special Advisor

Today, the Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) is thrilled to announce that Team USA women’s baseball superstar Alex Hugo is joining the WPBL as a special advisor to assist with various areas including player development and recruitment. The only two-time USA Baseball Sportswoman of the Year Award Winner (2019, 2024), Hugo was a Team USA Silver Medalist at the 2024 Women’s Baseball Cup.

“What the WPBL is doing for women’s baseball is really important and I am thrilled to be a part of it,” said Alex Hugo, Special Advisor to the WPBL. “There are so many great players out there and I am really excited to be working with the league on recruitment and player development.”

A member of the USA Women’s National Baseball Team the last seven years, Hugo led them to a gold medal at the 2019 COPABE Women’s Pan-American Championships and earned MVP honors for her performance in the tournament. Additionally in 2019, Hugo was the Tournament Homerun Champion at the Women’s Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). Since 2022, Hugo has been a Homerun Derby participant and, in 2023, became a Minor League Roving Instructor for the Oakland Athletics.

“Alex is a phenomenal player who has made important contributions to our game,” commented Dr. Justine Siegal, WPBL Co-Founder. “I know her leadership will make a significant impact on the WPBL and inspire girls to follow their baseball dreams.”

Prior to becoming a member of the USA Women’s National Baseball Team in 2018, Hugo was a softball starter at both the University of Kansas and University of Georgia from 2012-2016. A first team All-American, and first and second National Fastpitch Coaches Association Honors, she was a member of the 2014 SEC Tournament Champions and the NCAA Division I homerun leader. In 2016, Hugo made her first Women’s College World Series (WCWS) appearance and was a draft pick to the National Pro Fastpitch League
